Cooper

Cooper

Cooper is a global company with representation in every continent and an international reputation for excellence in the design and manufacture of split bearings.

Cooper is expert in the design, manufacture and supply of specialist bearings.  Cooper invented the ultra flexible split-to-the-shaft system and continues to pioneer development and manufacturing at world-class level.

Cooper bearings are currently saving thousands of international business significant installation and maintenance downtime costs.

Wherever machinery is under pressure to perform in the most demanding operating conditions on land, underground or underwater, you'll find Cooper bearings going strong.

All Cooper products are made in England to the highest specifications. The ISO 9001 accreditation shows you can rely on both - products and processes, and they have been recently awarded the ISO 14001 Environmental Standard for their commitment to reducing their impact on the environment.

They are also registered with Lloyds and BSI.

Cooper was established by Thomas Cooper, a prolific inventor and brilliant engineer in 1894 in King's Lynn, Norfolk, where the company is still based today. Mr. Cooper's first major invention was a revolutionary steam digger for use in arable farming. During the 1914-1918 war he invented and produced the first small aerial bombs of their kind. There was a point at which Thomas Cooper held more patents than any other single person in the country.

  • The key features of Cooper split bearings mean they will function effectively anywhere your designer has the imagination to incorporate them: The swivel cartridge accommodates angular misalignment. The constantly concentric sealing offers superior protection. Only grease lubrication is needed for maintenance. Pedestal  Pillow blocks (also known as Pedestals) are the most common method of mounting Cooper split roller bearings (usually supplied in cartridges).Pillow blocks with height-to-centre and bolt hole configurations to match industry standard SN, SD and SAF pillow blocks are shown separately.Pillow blocks with additional features to aid their application to marine drive systems are shown here. Pillow blocks are common between expansion (EX) and fixed (GR) units. Loads and mounting  The maximum safe radial load for a pedestal is based on the static rating (Cor) of the corresponding size of roller bearing. The full static rating can be applied if the angle of the load falls within the shaded area of the sketch shown. If the radial load falls outside the shaded area, if the radial load exceeds Cor or if the axial loads exceed 50% of the axial rating (Ca) of the corresponding roller bearing, please contact Exalto Emirates. For 100 series bearings, the maximum axial load is reduced to 35% Ca. Pedestals should be fully supported on a flat, rigid surface to avoid distortion of the pedestal or deflection under load. For loads within 45° of the horizontal, the base should be chocked or do welled. Standard Cooper pedestals are manufactured from grey iron. Ductile iron and steel pedestals are also available and should be considered for shock or pulsating loads.

  • Most Cooper split roller bearings are mounted in a cartridge. This is a spherically-machined inner housing that can be fitted into a number of outer housings including pedestals, flanges, rod-ends, take-up units and custom housings either supplied by Cooper or manufactured by the customer. The cartridge houses the bearing and seals. For any given size of bearing there are two main types of cartridge: The standard cartridge - up to 300 mm / 12” shaft size - featuring a groove in each end bore that can accommodate felt seals (supplied as standard with the cartridge), high temperature packing or a rubber lip seal. Above 300 mm / 12” shaft size the standard cartridge features grease groove seals. The North American standard cartridge (also available worldwide). This is the ‘triple labyrinth’ (TL) type, which accommodates either an aluminium triple labyrinth (ATL) seal or - on certain sizes - a neoprene triple labyrinth (NTL). ATL and NTL seals are not supplied with the cartridge and must be ordered separately. Cartridges to accommodate other types of seal, such as lip seals for submerged conditions, and combinations of seals, may require special machining. They may also have a different length on shaft to the standard types listed. Cartridges for fixed (GR) and expansion (EX) bearings are different, so special care must be taken when ordering and fitting. Cartridges for GR bearings feature drillings for ‘side screws’ that locate the outer race against one side of the seating, while cartridges for EX bearings may include additional internal machining.Click here for compatible bearings for this cartridge.
